Trenton Fish & Game Club

To All members!

The Town of Trenton is in the process of rezoning the club.  The proposed zoning change is for the club to be classified as a “Special Use Permit” with many restrictions that potentially could drive the club out of existence.   A copy of the proposal can be accessed by clicking here and should be read by all members. There has been one public hearing already on the subject which was attended by club officers as well as the Greenfield Fish and Game Club officials, which will also be affected by the proposed changes. 

At the meeting the club’s concerns were voiced to the Trenton Town Board members. The changes include the following:

1. Redefining the definition of the game club.
2. Process involved in building a new range including:
3. Complete set of plans from a NYS Professional Engineer.
4. Use of third Party “experts” to be selected by the Town at their discretion but at the Club’s expense.
5. Existing ranges are subject to annual inspections with the Town again reserving the right to hire a Third Party “expert” to inspect the ranges at the Club’s expense.
6. Existing ranges have 24 months to comply with the provisions and requirements of new ranges.
7. All other zoning changes have grandfathered existing situations whereas this one does not, giving only a 24 month window to comply.

The matter has been tabled by the Town Board for further discussion and the Club has been promised by the Town a meeting so that the Club can express its concerns with the proposal. 

Some of the Town Board members have indicated that the public does not support the Club in this.  Please contact your Town council members and voice your support for the Club.  As with anything else political, your opinion counts and we need your help to make sure the new zoning restrictions don’t financially break the club in arbitrary “Third Party Expert” costs for inspections.
